CAR ACCIDENT: Woman killed after fatal accident on I-80

Sierra Nevada – A car accident along Interstate 80 has left one woman dead and a man injured Monday morning.

According to CHP officer Greg Cassina, the woman, who is around 26 years old, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala on the westbound lane of I-80 around 5:30 a.m. She and a male passenger were reportedly driving back from Ely, Nevada when the accident occurred west of Eagle Lakes Road.

Witnesses claim that the car hit the center divide and overturned. The driver got ejected out of the vehicle because she was not wearing a seatbelt. Her companion who was sleeping when the accident happened had his on and suffered only moderate injuries.

Cassina said that the unnamed Stockton woman may have fallen asleep while driving. She landed 75 feet away from the car and suffered a fatal head injury. The male companion meanwhile, was taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital for treatment, and was released.
