CAR ACCIDENT: Volvo's New Automatic Brakes Prevent Rear-End Accidents
July 22, 2011
Los Angeles- The Volvo's new automatic braking system could prevent rear-end collision among low-speed vehicles, according to Highway Loss Data Institute.
Reports said Volvo installed laser sensors among XC6o midsize 2010-2011 models to trigger automatic brake when the SUV about to hit the rear of the other vehicle.
The system can detect vehicles within 18 feet and which are moving from 2 to 19 miles per hour. However, if the speed difference between vehicles is greater than 9mph, it can only reduce the impact and the damage, reports said.
According to reports, Volvo's City Safety system is also installed on 2011-2012 S60 sedans, 2012 S80 sedans, and XC70 wagons. The automakers are researching on better technology that can raise the speed tolerance of the laser sensor.
The Highway Loss Data Institute commented that the new system reduces rear-end crashes by 27 percent.
