Redondo Beach, CA - A man died after he stepped into oncoming traffic and struck by a car in Redondo Beach last Friday.
Police officials said that the accident occurred at around 8:10 p.m. on the 2600 block of Artesia Boulevard.
The man believed to have been under the influence of alcohol and whose identity has not been determined was pronounced dead at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
According to Sgt. Phil Keenan of the Redondo Beach Police Department, the man was described by witnesses as a local transient, about 55 years of age, around 5-foot-7 in height, has salt-and-pepper hair and a goatee and wearing a black shirt and gray pants.
"According to witnesses, he waited in the center median and was hesitating whether he should go or not. He finally went and stepped right in front of a car. We believe it was due to his intoxication," Keenan said.
The driver of the car seemed to be driving within the speed limit of 35 mph and has immediately stopped after hitting the man.
