August 23, 2010
Yuma – A 29-year old man was injured Monday morning after losing control of his car and plunging into an irrigation canal, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to Armando Campos, spokesman for the Winterhaven office of CHP, the accident happened at about 8:32 a.m. Authorities said Andres Muro was driving his 2007 Toyota westbound on California State Route 24.
For unknown reasons, Muro lost control of the car and swerved across the eastbound lane. He overcorrected and eventually crashed into the Yuma Main Canal.
The Winterhaven Fire Department, Imperial County Sheriff's Office and Rural/Metro responded to the scene. Muro was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Campos estimates that the canal where the car plunged is approximately eight to 10 feet deep.
