Crash Killed 71-year-Old Woman, Injured Racing Driver

Santa Ana – An elderly woman in her Mazda was killed after she appeared to run a red light and was hit by a Dodge Pickup Truck Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Police reported that Alberta Ricker, 71, was heading south on Van Ness Avenue at around 4:30 p.m. when a 19-year-old man heading west along Edinger Avenue collided with her vehicle.

Ricker had to be extricated from her wrecked car by firefighters. She was declared dead on the scene.

Authorities are now investigating allegations that the teen driver was racing with a white vehicle when the accident happened. He was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana for treatments.
