November 17, 2009

Madera County - An unidentified 85-year-old Coarsegold woman driving with a 90-year-old man died after their vehicle, a Hyundai, rolled over several times before hitting an oncoming Ford pick-up from the opposite lane, the California Highway patrol said.

The occupants of the pick-up were identified as 74-year-olds Donald Schmidt and Alta Schmidt of Atwater. Both of them suffered moderate injuries and had to be treated at Community Regional Medical Center.

Reports indicate that the Hyundai rolled over when the driver failed to control the vehicle and hit a boulder.

The driver of the pick-up, Donald, had reportedly seen that the Hyundai rolling their way but was unable to get off its path and so it tumbled on their pick-up.

Roads had been closed for a few hours as police investigated the accident.
