October 21, 2010
Lakeside – A car that was reported missing by a local was wrecked by its carjacker Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident occurred shortly after its owner reported the silver Nissan missing. Witnesses claimed that the car went off the road while traveling on Wildcat Canyon Road, south of Muth Valley Road, at about 10:19 pm.
About three minutes later, the owner called the Sheriff’s Department to report that his car was stolen by a man with a knife, sheriff’s Lt. Marco Garmo said. According to the owner, the carjacker approached him on Maine Avenue, threatened him, and drove away with the Nissan to Lake Jennings Road.
Officials shut down Wildcat Canyon Road in search of the carjacker. They were able to detain a man around 10:30 pm. A knife was found on the floor of the car that crashed.
