Car Collision Injures Motorcycle Officer in Downtown LA

July 1, 2008

LOS ANGELES - A collision accident, involving a car and a motorcycle, has occurred in the intersection of 5th Street and Stanford Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Reports said a 2002 Toyota Camry struck a police motorcycle driven by an officer.

Witnesses said the Camry driver was heading south on Stanford Avenue when she collided with the motorcycle officer, who was traveling west on 5th Street before it hit a pole. Both the officer and driver were within the 35-mph speed limit when the collision happened.

The officer suffered a contusion in the nose and was treated by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and taken to a hospital. The Camry driver was not hurt.

Though it was not immediately clear who was at fault, one of the witnesses said the Camry driver did not stop at the intersection and rolled through while the officer had his lights on.

There is no stop sign for 5th Street traffic at the intersection.
