Rancho Cordova - A 13-year veteran with the sheriff's department has died from injuries he sustained from a fatal crash, Wednesday.
Lawrence Canfield was rushed to the nearby Mercy San Juan medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff Department.
Canfield, 43, was driving eastbound near Coloma Road and Sierra Madre Court at around 2p.m when the accident happened.
Officer Canfield has been working in the Rancho Cordova Police Department's motorcycle unit for four years said sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Tim Curran.
The 79-year-old unidentified man who has rammed into Canfield stopped to assist the injured policeman to no avail. He has been detained as police investigate the accident.
Curran said the deputy officer left a wife and two children.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to our officers and their families," said Chief of the Rancho Cordova Police Department, Reuben Meeks.
