January 14, 2011

Orange – A 13-year-old boy suffered trauma injuries after he was struck by two cars while walking his way to school, authorities said.

The accident occurred around 7:30 am in the 18900 block of Spring Street, near El Modena High and Santiago Middle Schools. A Toyota 4Runner on the westbound lane hit the boy, who was on his way to Santiago Middle School.

He was then thrown to the east, and into the path of a Land Rover Discovery, according to the California Highway Patrol. Carol Walker, the driver of the Land Rover who witnessed the crash, said that the kid flew up, twisted a little, hit her car, and slid down.

She got out of the car and saw the boy lying on the street with eyes closed. The kid’s mother rushed to his side, and he opened his eyes five minutes later, Walker said.

The victim sustained only moderate trauma injuries and was sent to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. The CHP is still investigating the accident.
