CAR ACCIDENT: 5 Hurt in Parked Car Accident on First Street
April 19, 2001
Smith River-Gasquet– At least five people sustained severe injuries Sunday after their vehicle smashed into a parked car along First Street south of North Beckstead Avenue, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to reports, 58-year-old Shirley Sherman was driving her 1998 Geo Prizm along First Street at around 10:30 pm when the vehicle swerved and crashed into a parked car.
Officers said Sherman and four passengers from Smith River suffered mild to moderate injuries because of the crash. The victims were taken to Sutter Coast Hospital for treatment.
Authorities said all five victims were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. They said alcohol influence might have been the cause why the driver lost control of her car.
