CAR ACCIDENT: 1 killed, 1 injured in car collision

Monterey Co. – A driver was killed while his passenger suffered serious injuries Saturday morning when the sports car he was driving veered off the road and hit a tree, said the police.

Juan Garcia Jr., 22, of Salinas, immediately died at the scene.

According to the police, Garcia was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette at about 2 a.m. on the northbound lane of Constitution Boulevard, north of East Laurel Drive when the car swerved to the center median and hit a concrete curb. The sports car then drifted sideways and struck a tree by the roadside.

The passenger, who was not identified immediately, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
